Vehicles with unique trunks, including truck tailgates and rear mounted spare tires, can improve rear access with a hitch adapter. By extending VelociRAX hitch racks back 4 inches and down 3.5 inches, most tailgates can fully open and spare tires can live freely on your vehicle while the rack is in the load position. Enjoy added space to the back of your vehicle while your hitch car rack is installed!

Hitch adapters have a built-in anti-rattle system, also used with VelociRAX hitch racks, to eliminate rack movement. Installing a VelociRAX bike rack on other hitch adapters is not recommended due to our unique anti-rattle ability.

Hitch Adaptors Include:

Built-in proprietary anti-rattle system (use 17mm wrench to tighten and loosen)
Double-layered, double-welded
Fully powder coated
2-inch size comes included with a 1/2-inch locking hitch pin, the 2.5-inch and 3-inch sizes can utilize standard 5/8-inch hitch pins

Important - sizes refer to your hitch receiver (2-inch, 2.5-inch or 3-inch) and the adaptor takes them all to 2-inch, which is the required receiver size for the VelociRAX hitch rack. NOT for towing.

Requires:

3 - 3/8-inch depth past center of hitch pinhole to insert a VelociRAX
2-inch, 2.5-inch, or 3-inch class III hitch with tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs

4-inch extension with a 3.5 inch drop
For use with class III 2-inch, 2.5-inch & 3-inch hitch receivers
Not for towing

RAM bed access

Full tailgate use now!

No more ignoring my tailgate. My truck is lifted so even with the rack in camp mode I couldn’t use the tailgate because the angle made the bottom of the rack still stick up too far. Now, rack up or rack down, tailgate is down. Glad I decided to grab it.

I use the hitch adaptor with my jeep wrangler, the rack is stable clear the rear door tire. The only thing is we cannot open the swing door.

This extender was exactly what I’d been searching for. I needed something short and well engineered and this did the trick. The tension ramp is well designed and the system works flawlessly. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s certainly the best extender out of the three I own!

We have a Mercedes Metris (2016) that has a 2.5 inch lift and with a full rear liftgate (not the barn/cargo doors). Adding this adaptor allows us access the entirety of the trunk area with bikes on the rack and without having to lay the rack in a full flat mode. The door stops about halfway up the released, load/unload position, so we do have to bend down to access it, but it's easy and has made it it super efficient. We don't feel or see any additional sway or wobble with the rack. (To be fair, our old rack before we got the Velocirax, pretty much did the hula at all times, so there's that.) >> If you have a van with a full rear door this is the solution.
